Disabling Administrator mode
Use the File Buddy > Disable Administrator Mode command to disable Administrator mode. You can either select File Buddy > Disable Administrator Mode, or you can go to the General preferences and turn off the Allow access to Administrator mode setting. Using the menu will only return Administrator mode to a disabled state; it can re-enabled freely at any time. Disabling Administrator mode is recommended whenever it will not be needed for a period of time.
Deactivating Administrator mode
Disabling Administrator mode does not deactivate it. This allows you to toggle administrative privileges on and off at will without re-entering a password and relaunching File Buddy. However, you may wish to completely deactivate File Buddy’s Administrator mode at times. For example, if you allow someone else to use your computer while you aren’t around and you don’t want that person to be able to use File Buddy with administrative privileges you should deactivate Administrator mode. To deactivate Administrator mode, open the Preferences window and uncheck the Allow access to Administrator mode option. When you click Save, you will be prompted to relaunch File Buddy. The next time File Buddy launches Administrator mode will be deactivated and require a password to be reactivated.
Administrator mode and remote volumes
Accessing remote volumes while Administrator mode is on results in File Buddy operating with reduced privileges on those volumes. This is the expected behavior, a consequence of how permissions are enforced across a network. For this reason Administrator mode should always be disabled before using File Buddy with remote volumes. This applies to searches, getting and setting info, cleaning, renaming files, pretty much everything File Buddy can do.
